T Level student Jack makes his mark at growing fragrance business

A Barnsley College T Level student has been praised after becoming ‘part of the team’ at a growing independent fragrance business that has its sights set on national expansion.

Jack Madeley, who is studying a Creative Media Technician T Level, has supported the redesign of AromaHoliday’s website alongside work on marketing, product listings and content creation.

T Level students must undertake a minimum 45-day work placement as part of their course. Jack’s placement comes at a significant time for AromaHoliday – which produces unique travel-inspired candles, skincare and fragrances, and has recently celebrated launching on the Debenhams online marketplace.

Mark Jordan, founder of AromaHoliday, said Jack has had input into and seen ‘first-hand how a growing business develops its brand, launches products, works with major retailers, improves its online presence and responds to the everyday challenges and opportunities that come with growth’.

“For a small growing business, taking on a student might initially feel like something that requires additional time and resource,” added Mark.

“Our experience has shown us just how valuable it can be when you give a young person the opportunity to become genuinely involved.

“Jack hasn't spent his placement sitting on the sidelines watching what we do.

“He's become part of the team, working on real projects across our marketing, product listings, content and, importantly, the continued development of the AromaHoliday website.”

The Silkstone-based company, which creates scents inspired by everything from motor racing at Monaco, the Himalayan mountain air, and Maldives beaches to the African savannah, is in talks with several other retailers as it plans to reach many more customers across the country.

Jack said: “I've really enjoyed becoming part of the AromaHoliday team rather than just feeling like I'm here on placement. I've been able to contribute to real projects, particularly the website and marketing, and then actually see some of the things we've worked on go live.

“Seeing the business growing at the same time has made it even more exciting and has given me experience and confidence that you can't really get just from being in a classroom.”
