Meet our Governors

Sue Horner

Sue's career in education has been motivated by the desire to improve the life chances of young people and enrich their lives. This was central to her 20 years in Sheffield as a teacher and as an adviser to schools. Sue then joined the government organisations responsible for national policy on curriculum and assessment.

As Director of Curriculum for England, Sue was responsible for the national curriculum and its assessments and for overseeing examinations at GCSE and A Level.  More recently, she has enjoyed using her skills to support other countries in improving their education systems, including Oman and Rwanda.

For a long time, Sue has been committed to supporting charities which develop creative reading and writing, enabling young people to find their voice and creatively express themselves. She is currently on the board of First Story, which places published authors into schools for a year’s residency.

Sue has always kept her interest in education, and is a member of two Multi Academy Trusts. Internationally, she chairs the board of a small charity which supports a school in Kigali, Rwanda and initiates teacher training nationwide in Rwanda.
