Meet our Governors

Marie Lang – Chair

Marie Lang is Director and Co‑Owner of GBAC Limited, a leading firm of accountants and business advisors in Barnsley. A Fellow of both ICAEW and ACCA, and a Lancaster University Economics graduate, Marie brings deep technical expertise and decades of senior experience.

She qualified with KPMG in 1994, working extensively with large corporates and completing a secondment in the Czech Republic. She later became CFO of Assetwell Ltd, a UK truck exporter, before joining GBAC in 2010.

From 2010 to 2018, whilst at GBAC, Marie also served as Technical Director for the European Federation of Accountants and Auditors for SMEs. She represented the profession on global standard‑setting boards—including the IAASB, IAESB and IESBA CAGs—and contributed to major European accounting and auditing legislative reforms.

Barnsley born and bred, Marie is passionate about raising aspirations and championing lifelong learning. She is proud to serve as Chair of Barnsley College, following previous roles as Vice Chair, Audit and Risk Committee Chair and SEND link governor. She also sits on the Governance and Search Committee and Remuneration Committee. 

Outside work, she loves travelling, walking, and birdwatching.
