Inspirational Apprentice Triumphs in Adult Care
Posted: 10/06/2025
Barnsley College apprentice Amy Scott has defied the odds to complete her Level 2 Adult Care Worker apprenticeship, triumphing over significant personal and health challenges with courage and determination.
Amy, who lives with autism, was recently diagnosed with acquired non-epileptic seizures—a condition that severely affects energy levels, concentration, and emotional well-being.
Yet, instead of letting her condition hold her back, Amy rose to the challenge, developing coping strategies with support from her trainer and workplace mentors.
Amy said: “There were days when I wanted to give up, but I reminded myself why I started, because I care about helping people.
“I’ve learnt that it’s okay to ask for help and take things one step at a time; this journey has made me stronger, and I’m proud of what I’ve achieved.”
During her apprenticeship, the onset of seizures presented a major hurdle. But Amy’s mental resilience and commitment to her role helped her not only stay the course but thrive.
Her determination culminated in a successful End-Point Assessment, where she achieved a Merit—a remarkable accomplishment considering the challenges she faced.
Now a qualified adult care worker, Amy is already looking ahead. Buoyed by her success, she plans to progress to a Level 3 qualification in the future.
Her trainer, Nicola Rowley, praised her unwavering dedication: “Amy’s courage and determination have been truly inspiring.
Despite everything she’s faced, she has shown incredible strength and professionalism. She’s grown into a confident care worker who will no doubt go on to achieve even more.”
