Grammy-winning musician Ron Block visits College

Music students with Ron Block

Students from the College’s Music department were treated to an exclusive guest talk from Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist Ron Block, who shared insights from his remarkable career in the international music industry.

Ron spoke to students about his journey as a performer, songwriter and producer, drawing on decades of experience in bluegrass and country music. He is best known as a long-time member of Alison Krauss & Union Station and has collaborated with iconic artists including Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.

An impressive 14 Grammy Awards have cemented his reputation as one of the leading figures in his field. Ron took time out of his schedule to meet students, perform a few banjo tunes and answer questions about his creative process, influences and approach to music-making.

Millie Jonas, a Level 3 Music Performance and Production student, said: “It was very informative, I loved the part where he talked about the open and fixed mindset, it felt like talking to any musician. I learned to stick to practicing and avoid distractions.”

Daniel Watson, a Music Facilitator at the College, who helped organise the visit, added: “The session offered students a rare chance to engage directly with a world-class artist, gaining valuable insights into both the technical and personal sides of a successful career in music.”
