From Dental Nurse to Dog Groomer
Posted: 15/05/2025
Levi Sanderson has successfully swapped dental nursing for dog grooming after completing a Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistants Certificate and turning her passion into a thriving business.
She has now launched her own dog grooming business, Only Pets Groom Room, and is already fully booked with canine clients.
With no prior grooming experience, Levi credits the College for giving her the skills, confidence, and support she needed to make a major career change.
She said: “I absolutely would not have been able to do this without the course and without my tutor, Nicola.
“The structure of the course was perfect; it built my confidence week by week. The College provided such a variety of dog breeds to work with, which really helped me develop my grooming skills.”
The course combines practical grooming experience with structured theory lessons, enabling students to prepare for the final exam while gaining hands-on knowledge.
Levi now works part-time as a dog groomer and is planning to return to Barnsley College to further her training by enrolling on the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming.
Laura Astles, Adult Course Leader for Land Based Industries, added: “We are proud to support students like Levi in turning their passion into a rewarding career.
“Our dog grooming courses are designed to build both practical skills and confidence, preparing students thoroughly for success in the industry.”
