Advanced Learner Loan Bursary
If you're aged 19 or over and paying for your course with an Advanced Learner Loan, you may be able to get extra financial support through the Learner Support Fund.
Support may be available to help with:
- Travel to and from College
- Meals while studying
- Childcare costs
- Additional Learning Support costs
To be considered, you'll need to complete an online Learner Support Fund application, through the Pay My Student Portal
Eligibility is based on your household income and individual circumstances.

Important Information
- Financial support is not guaranteed and is subject to available funding.
- You must provide evidence of your financial circumstances and study-related costs.
- Support is awarded based on your actual costs of attending and completing your course.
- Students who receive a course fee waiver may also be eligible to apply.
- If you receive Learner Support Fund payments, it is your responsibility to inform the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), as these payments may affect any benefits you receive.
We encourage all students who may need help with the cost of studying to apply.
ELIGIBILITY
- Household Income below £42,000
- You must be claiming an Advanced Learner Loan already, before claiming a Learner Support Fund
ENTITLEMENT
Travel Costs: Students are recommended to apply for any discounted travel passes they are entitled to. Where possible, a travel pass will be awarded to students once eligible. In cases whereby this cannot be possible, an alternative solution will be arranged with you once your application has been completed.

Childcare Costs: Students can claim funding towards Childcare costs with costs of up to £180 Per week. This is often paid directly to your Childcare provider and requires the student to self-fund childcare costs initially until funding has been confirmed.
Please note: you will only be able to claim entitlement for either Travel Costs or Childcare Costs, and not both.
Additional Learning Support: Students that require ALS support in the classroom and have expenses in relation to this can claim this back through the Learner Support Fund. Please speak with department tutors for further information in relation to your classroom needs.
Food Credit Allowance: A contribution towards food credits will be awarded to you via a cashless system onto your student card. The College operate a cross-site initiative of cashless systems for both staff and students. Students will be awarded a daily allowance. Part-time students will not be entitled to this entitlement unless classroom studies are from 9.00am - 3.00pm.
