Course Overview
Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice Level 4 Award ( Part-time) (Flexible start dates)
This qualification covers understanding and internally assuring the quality of assessment, as well as planning, allocating and monitoring work in the learner's own area of responsibility. This specification includes the qualifications for internal and external quality assurers (previously internal and external verifiers). They were needed to meet the emerging needs of the developing qualification frameworks and to reflect changes in the practice of assessment.
The qualification is made up of three mandatory units:
1. Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
A knowledge-based unit covering key concepts, principles, and legal requirements of assessment.
Delivered through taught sessions, independent study, and guided learning.
2. Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
A practical unit requiring you to assess learners in their workplace using a variety of assessment methods.
You will need access to at least two learners working towards a vocational qualification.
3. Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding
Focuses on assessing learners in more controlled environments such as classrooms or workshops.
Again, you will need to assess at least two learners using different assessment methods.
Knowledge and Practical Requirements
Knowledge: Delivered through fortnightly sessions, held from 3:00–5:00 PM on either a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. These sessions will support you in completing the theoretical elements of the course.
Practical: You must demonstrate your ability to assess learners in real-life settings. This includes planning, conducting, and reviewing assessments using a range of methods (e.g., observation, questioning, professional discussion, and reviewing learner work).
To meet the practical assessment criteria, you will need access to a minimum of two learners who are actively working towards a recognised vocational qualification. These learners will form the basis of your practical evidence portfolio.
