Understanding Dignity and Safeguarding in Adult Health and Social Care Level 2 (Pre Access) Certificate Part-time
This Level 2 qualification introduces you to the key principles of dignity, safeguarding and duty of care within adult health and social care settings. It is suitable for anyone working with, or intending to work with, vulnerable adults.
You will explore how:
dignity is upheld in practice
safeguarding responsibilities are met
dilemmas or unsafe practice can arise
how to recognise and respond to abuse
to uphold dignity through person centred practice
to manage the dilemmas that can arise when supporting vulnerable adults
This qualification develops your essential knowledge of dignity, safeguarding and duty of care required in adult health and social care roles. It also examines wider issues of public concern and the impact of safeguarding adults reviews on service delivery.
The qualification will provide you with:
A solid understanding of safeguarding legislation, types of abuse and how to respond to concerns
Insight into dignity, wellbeing and respectful communication in adult care
Knowledge of duty of care, managing conflicts, dilemmas and unsafe practice
Awareness of public concerns, media influence and the impact of safeguarding reviews
Preparedness for further study or progression into adult social care roles
Course content
You will study four mandatory knowledge based units:
Understand safeguarding in adult health and social care – legislation, types of abuse, recognition, reporting and multi agency roles
Principles of dignity in adult health and social care practice – dignity, wellbeing, respectful practice, person centred working, and professional relationships
Understand duty of care in adult health and social care – dilemmas, conflicts, unsafe practice, consent and best interest decision making
Understand dilemmas and public concerns in adult health and social care – issues of public concern, media influence, safeguarding adult’s reviews and their impact on practice

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.
If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
