The Level 2 Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities Certificate is designed for anyone interested in, or already working with, people who have learning disabilities across health, social care, education or housing support roles. It provides essential knowledge around communication, safeguarding, inclusion, advocacy and person‑centred approaches to supporting individuals with learning disabilities.
This qualification provides you with essential knowledge to effectively support individuals with learning disabilities across a range of care and support settings. It explores the nature of learning disabilities, human rights, inclusion, advocacy and communication, alongside safeguarding, personalisation and positive risk-taking. You will also gain an introductory understanding of autistic spectrum conditions and how to help individuals access healthcare services.
The qualification aims to provide you with:
A solid understanding of learning disabilities
Awareness of rights, inclusion and advocacy
Knowledge of safeguarding
Skills in person‑centred approaches
Understanding of positive risk‑taking
Introductory knowledge of autistic spectrum conditions
Understanding of supporting access to healthcare
Course content
You will study six mandatory units:
Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
Introduction to personalisation in social care
Principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with disabilities
Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.
If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
