Principles of Dementia Care Level 2 Certificate Part-time

This qualification is designed to support your development of essential knowledge and understanding in caring for individuals with dementia. It explores key principles such as person-centred care, the impact of effective communication, the responsible use of medication, and the value of meaningful activities.

Whether you're looking to start a career in adult social care or enhance your existing skills, this course provides a strong foundation for supporting individuals with dementia in a compassionate and informed way.

The qualification doesn't infer competence in the work role but can be used to support the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed for those working in, or towards, a dementia care role.

Course content

You will study the following mandatory units:

  • Dementia awareness

  • The person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia

  • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interactions with individuals with dementia.

  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in Dementia care

  • Understand the administration of medication

  • Understand behaviour in the context of dementia

  • Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care

This course will run one evening per week from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. The specific day is yet to be confirmed.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.

If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
