Metal Jewellery Making Part-time (Wed afternoon)

Do you wish you had the ability to create truly unique pieces of jewellery, Do you have ideas but don’t know how to realise them. Do you want to be creative and learn some hands-on skills that will impress?

In this jewellery making course you will learn the fundamental skills to start creating your own unique jewellery. You will explore some of the varied core techniques and processes of jewellery making with the aim of producing wearable items for you to keep.

You will be encouraged to add your own creative flair by adapting any design elements to create jewellery with your own aesthetic. Having learnt and practiced some of the techniques of jewellery making you will have the basis to continue to explore this wide ranging, practical and creative subject and build a unique portfolio of work.

The course will comprise of one or two projects, each resulting in a finished wearable piece of jewellery. The first project will be aimed at learning the fundamental skills of jewellery making; cutting, shaping and finishing metal as well as silver soldering. These skills will be used and developed in all projects.

In the following projects you will be encouraged to use a variety of processes and techniques such as ring making, stone setting, casting, press forming, etching, metal embossing, chain making and wire work.

The class is taught by Jewellery Designer and Maker Hayley Nippers in a specialist 3D design workshop with dedicated bench space for jewellery. Where appropriate you will be making your jewellery in silver and will incur additional costs for silver of between £10 and £50 depending upon the size and quantity of the work you produce. The use of base metals such as copper and brass are free.
