This one-year qualification combines academic study with real-world business application, allowing you to investigate contemporary business issues, solve business problems and develop professional skills such as communication, teamwork, project management and leadership.
The course is ideal for students who are interested in progressing to university, higher apprenticeships or employment within areas such as business management, marketing, finance, human resources, customer service and entrepreneurship.
Throughout the year, you will learn through a variety of engaging activities including business simulations, case studies, presentations, event planning projects, research tasks and employer-focused assignments. You will also complete a minimum of 60 hours work placement to gain industry experience.
You will have access to modern learning facilities, digital learning resources and experienced business tutors who will support you in developing the confidence, professionalism and employability skills needed for future success.
The qualification is designed to give you a broad understanding of business through the study of six specialist units:
Exploring Business: This unit introduces the fundamentals of business. You will investigate different types of organisations, their structures, aims and objectives, stakeholders and the factors that contribute to business success. You will also examine how businesses respond to changes in their internal and external environments.
Developing a Marketing Campaign (Externally Assessed): Marketing plays a vital role in the success of any organisation. In this unit, you will learn how businesses identify customer needs through market research and use this information to develop effective marketing campaigns. Assessment takes place through a Pearson-set examination based on a pre-released business case study.
Personal and Business Finance (Externally Assessed): This unit develops your understanding of financial principles for both individuals and businesses. You will study budgeting, cash flow, accounting documents, financial planning and sources of finance. This knowledge is then assessed through an external examination.
Managing an Event: Events are a key part of many businesses and organisations. In this unit, you will plan, organise and evaluate a business event, developing key skills in project management, teamwork, communication and problem solving.
Investigating Customer Service: Excellent customer service is essential to business success. You will explore how organisations meet customer expectations, handle customer interactions and use customer service strategies to build loyalty and improve performance.
Supply Chain Operations: This unit focuses on how businesses manage the flow of goods, services and information from suppliers to customers. You will explore procurement, logistics, inventory management and the importance of efficient supply chain operations in achieving business objectives.
Across all units, you will develop a wide range of transferable skills, including:
Communication and presentation skills
Research and analytical skills
Project and event management
Financial awareness
Problem solving and decision making
