The Level 2 Business BTEC First Certificate is an engaging and practical qualification that introduces you to the exciting world of business while helping you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours valued by employers and further education providers.

This course is ideal for students who have an interest in business, enterprise, marketing, finance or retail and want to develop their understanding of how organisations operate in today's economy and provides an excellent foundation for progression onto Level 3 Business programmes, apprenticeships or employment.

Through a mixture of coursework, projects, case studies and external assessments, you will explore real business situations and apply your learning to practical vocational scenarios.

Throughout the course, you will develop essential employability skills including communication, teamwork, problem solving, customer service, organisation and time management. Learning takes place in a supportive environment using a range of resources, including digital technologies, research activities, business simulations and collaborative projects.

The qualification provides a broad introduction to the business sector through the study of six specialist units:

• Enterprise in the business world: This unit introduces the fundamentals of business and enterprise. You will explore the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, investigate how businesses are organised and develop your own realistic business idea. You will also learn how businesses respond to customer needs and market opportunities whilst developing enterprise and entrepreneurial skills.

• Finance for Business (Externally Assessed): Finance is a key element of business success. In this unit, you will learn how businesses manage money, calculate costs and revenues, and use financial information to make decisions. Topics include sources of finance, budgeting, cash flow and financial forecasting. Assessment takes place through an external examination.

• Principles of Marketing (Externally Assessed): Marketing influences the success of every business. This unit explores how businesses identify customer needs, conduct market research and use marketing activities to attract and retain customers. You will develop an understanding of the marketing mix and how organisations promote their products and services. Assessment is through an external examination.

• Retail Business: Retail is one of the UK's largest employment sectors. In this unit, you will investigate how retail businesses operate, the importance of customer service in retail settings and how retailers respond to changing customer expectations. You will also examine sales techniques, merchandising and the factors that contribute to retail success.

• Business Communication: Effective communication is essential in every organisation. This unit focuses on the different methods businesses use to communicate with customers, employees and external stakeholders. You will develop professional communication skills through producing business documents, presentations, emails and other forms of workplace communication.

• Working in Business Teams: Teamwork is a key skill in both education and employment. In this unit, you will investigate how teams work effectively within organisations, explore different team roles and develop your ability to work collaboratively to achieve shared goals. You will also build valuable interpersonal and leadership skills.
