Barnsley College is proud to celebrate the achievements of one of its outstanding apprentices, Luke Laycock, who received highly commended for the Rising Star category at the prestigious Leeds Manufacturing Festival Awards.

Now in their fourth year, the awards have become a standout feature of the festival, marking the exceptional contributions of people working in the sector and, in particular younger people, to the future of manufacturing, which continues to face ongoing skills and recruitment challenges.

Luke, who is currently pursuing a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner, has consistently demonstrated a high levels of commitment, attitude, and growth.

In addition to Luke’s individual recognition, SoluPak, a valued employer partner of the College, was awarded third place in the Employer of the Year category. This accolade highlights the company’s commitment to nurturing talent and creating a supportive workplace—qualities that make them an ideal partner for student placements and apprenticeships.

Luke said: “Being nominated by my employer and highly commended by the Leeds Manufacturing Festival for my work was a proud moment for me, and it solidified my decision to pursue a career in the manufacturing sector.
