A creative journey into fashion
Our T Level students are gaining real-world experience and developing the skills that employers value. The Level 3 Fashion and Textiles T Level offers a unique blend of classroom learning and hands-on industry experience, preparing students for exciting careers in the creative sector.
One of our talented Fashion students, Isla Corker, shares how studying a T Level has helped turn a lifelong passion for design into a clear career path.
Isla said: “Studying a T Level in Fashion has been a dream come true for me. I’ve always wanted to work in fashion since I was young, and this course felt like the perfect opportunity to start building a career in the industry. I’ve always been creative and loved designing and making clothes, so choosing this T Level was a natural step toward doing something I’m passionate about.
“My interest in fashion first began through textiles at school, where I enjoyed experimenting with fabrics and creating my own designs. Visiting College open days helped me realise that fashion was the right path for me. Seeing the studios, equipment, and the high standard of student work was really inspiring and confirmed my choice.
“As part of my T Level, I’m completing my industry placement at Angel Couture, a luxury fashion brand specialising in bespoke bridalwear and eveningwear. The company designs and produces custom-made garments for clients, from initial sketches and fittings through to the final hand-finished pieces. It’s been amazing to see the level of craftsmanship and precision that goes into every design.
“A typical day at Angel Couture is a mix of hands-on and creative work. I help cut patterns, make toiles, and assist with beading and embellishment. I also get involved with marketing tasks and learn about fittings and customer consultations. There’s a lot to take in, and I’ve realised how fast-paced and detail-focused the fashion world is. Every day offers new learning opportunities, and I can really see how this experience is preparing me for a career in the industry.
“Throughout the course and placement, I’ve developed a wide range of skills. My confidence has grown, especially when working with customers and as part of a team. Technically, I’ve improved my sewing techniques and learned how to handle delicate fabrics with care. I’ve also gained valuable insight into the fashion industry as a whole—from design and production to meeting briefs and working to deadlines.
“For anyone considering a T Level, I’d say go for it, especially if you’re passionate about fashion and ready to work hard. It’s a fast-paced course that gives you real-world experience and helps you build both your skills and confidence. Make the most of every opportunity during your placement, it’s where you really understand what it’s like to work in the industry.”
We’re proud to see our T Level students thriving both in the classroom and in their industry placements. Stories like this highlight how T Levels open doors to exciting, professional futures while allowing students to explore their creativity and gain real experience in their chosen field. We look forward to seeing where Isla takes her skills next, whether progressing into higher education, apprenticeships or launching her own careers in the fashion industry.
